This beautiful natural stone vase is carved from the soapstone mountains of Kisii, Kenya. The artisans use a machete to cut large pieces of stone from the mountain and then use smaller knives to whittle the vase into shape. The vase is then wet-sanded until perfectly smooth. The artisans then carve the lovely floral design into the vase by hand; no pattern is used! Each vase takes days to make and is a true work of art.

Since these vases show the natural colors of the stone, some color variations should be expected. One can often see shades of cream, gray, pink, and brown in the vases.
